Award For Local Farm Executive

A Chatham-Kent native has been honoured by an agricultural industry award as agrimarketer of the year.

Steve Denys is vice president of sales and marketing for Pride Seeds, but in winning the award from the Canadian Agri-Marketing Association, he was competing not just with the seed sector, but marketers across all agri-business sectors.

Denys believes it is important to speak out for agriculture.

"As farmers we really need to be proud of what we do and how we are doing it and the fact we produce the safest food supply in the world," he says. "The challenge we've got and the challenge that I've been involved with quite a bit the last few years is to communicate to those that aren't involved in agriculture the importance of our industry."

Denys says he tries to ensure people know they need to consider the science of food production and why farmers do what they do.
