Trade Role For Van Kesteren

Chatham-Kent Leamington MP Dave Van Kesteren is still getting used to life on the opposition side of the House of Commons, but he is looking forward to his deputy trade critic role.

Van Kesteren has just received the designation, although in the past he has taken part in trade delegations because of his previous role with finance.

"Large trade with the European Union, of course the Pacific Rim that is pending, I should mention Korea as well, these things have proven to be very important," he says. "There is always representation from all parties, I hope [to take part in more delegations] I know how important they are, it gives us an opportunity to see first hand how they do things in other countries."

Van Kesteren is hoping some of the recently signed deals will give Canadian trade a greater emphasis on countries outside the United States.
