The Windsor-Essex Community Health Centre is officially being asked to work with the Leamington hospital to deliver birthing services in Leamington.
Erie St. Clair LHIN has asked the agencies set up a formal partnership, which will see the health centre set up a navigation centre at the hospital concentrating on births.
LHIN Board Chair Martin Girash says they will be for related care.
"A broader scope of services than the delivery of the baby, the entire family services surrounding that particular event," he says, adding it would be for pre and post natal care, the hospital would still be birthing babies. "That would continue, and would continue to be part of the overall birthing service system, or home delivery if that's what the mother chose."
The Community Health Centre was asked to be involved because of its good record in dealing with minority and migrant populations.
There isn't a budget yet, but Girash says getting a budget is part of the next steps in the process.
The hospital and health centre are being asked to report to the LHIN in January on progress in setting up the partnership.
