A Tilbury native is celebrating his first world body building championship appearance.
23-year-old Rick Coomber recently returned from El Salvador, where he placed 14th out of 19 competitors. He calls it a good experience that he'll look to build on.
"Now that I've been to the worlds it would be nice to go again," says Coomber. "I'm going to take a break first and then come back probably in the year 2017, I'll jump back in, but a break is needed right now." Coomber says initially he started training for the provincials, and then qualified for nationals, and then surprisingly qualified for the worlds, for a total of 29 weeks dieting.
Coomber says he started working out six years ago but only just started competing a-year-and-a-half ago.
The University of Windsor student competed in the Junior Body Building category but at the world level says his body type is more suited for the Classic Body Building category and would change categories if he qualify again.
