Winter Safety Tips To Avoid Fines

As winter really kick starts in the region, police are warning motorists of some mistakes that may unknowingly land you a ticket.

Windsor police constable Andrew Drouillard says some don't realize that failing to remove snow and ice from your windows can land you an $85 ticket.

"You have to have a clear view in all directions of your vehicle -- front, side and rear," he says. "It's better to be safe and have all those windows clear."

It's also an $85 fine if you don't clear off your license plates.

In Windsor, leaving your car unattended while it heats up can get you a $100 fine.

Meanwhile in Chatham-Kent there is an idling bylaw in place, but drivers are exempt if they're heating a vehicle in cold weather.

Police also say drive to your comfort level when it's snowing and don't feel forced to go the speed limit.
