A slow but steady response to a local fundraising campaign to bring Highgates's Mary Webb Centre up to concert standards, has officials convinced construction will be underway this year.
Board Chair Marg Eberle says the fundraising is essential because the building needs a sprinkler system and an addition to house an elevator.
"When we get the grant from the federal government which is a fairly large one, a heritage grant, we'll be able to turn sod, I'm hoping, I'm hoping, in the late spring," she says. "We do have really good talent the rest of the spring (concerts) once a month, we've also got new artists coming in and displaying and putting their work up for sale."
Eberle says concerts continue to be well attended and there is an open house at the former church every Thursday afternoon.
