A local basketball star is back home after a stint playing professionally in Australia.
After two seasons down under, UCC grad Max Allin has returned to CK, most recently helping to coach his alma mater's senior boys basketball team. He notes a number of differences between playing in Canada vs. overseas.
"Being a way from your loved ones and family [is tough], it's a 16-hour time difference," says Allin. "You're also playing against men, just the size and the strength, and just overall better play is a big jump."
Allin says he's now looking forward to helping younger players grow their game, just like his family did for him back in the day.
"I'm one of the younger boys in the family, so I got to live through my brothers' experiences and my dad coaching. Now, me being able to pass that on is a great privilege," he says.
Allin and Head Coach Jim Dunlop led the Lancers to a semi-finals loss against St. Pat's. But Allin is already looking ahead to inspiring other young talent in the near future.
"I'm loving it," he says. "Working with younger guys, I just get to pass on everything I've learned, and it's great to see them progressing."
