The Chatham-Kent Branch of the OSPCA says the warmer weather increases the likelihood that wild animals are on the move, either looking for food or places to raise a family.
Community Relations Coordinator Robyn Brady says people should repair any winter damage to their homes that make it possible for animals to get in.
"If you have any holes in the roof, ways they might be able to get into the attic you'll have to make sure those are sealed up," she says. "Cap over and cover chimneys, cover any vent openings [with material that allows them to function] and also maybe install a motion sensor light to startle any wildlife that might be coming around the property."
The OSPCA gets a lot of calls about wild animals but it has limited ability to act because it is not a licensed wildlife centre so Brady says it refers callers to the Ministry of Natural Resources, or local licensed wildlife relocators.
