A 37-year-old Chatham man is being charged with a number of offences including assault, forcible confinement and uttering threats.
Officers pulled over a car on Queens Line near Drake Rd. yesterday around 12:30pm that had been reported to be swerving all over the roadway.
A woman bolted from the car to the safety of the police cruiser. Police say the woman got out of the car yelling for help as a man also stepped out and approached officers aggressively.
He was taken into custody.
Police say the 29-year-old woman, also from Chatham, had been assaulted earlier in the day, was held in the car by her hair and threatened with a knife.
The man arrested at the scene of the traffic stop has since been transferred over to the court for a bail hearing.
He's charged with four counts of assault, two counts of failing to comply with release conditions, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, driving while under suspension and mischief under $5,000.
