Union Gas has unveiled $16.8-million in renovations that turned the former training centre at the corner of Bloomfield Rd. and Riverview Line into its information technology headquarters.
The two-year project involved a complete overhaul and about 220 staff have been working there for several months.
Employee David Franssen was one of the many who polled staff and made suggestions on all aspects of the design.
"It was important from a number of factors but I think primarily it gave people a stake in what we were doing here as an organization," he says. "So people felt their needs and their requirements for a new building were being addressed."
Franssen says employees wanted to maximize natural light and have a variety of work spaces allowing for both individual and collaborative work. He says they are very happy with the result.
Union Gas says the project was completed on time and on budget, and the 90,000 hours of construction work were done without a lost time injury.
