A Windsor man is facing charges after an off-duty police officer was stabbed at Caesar's Windsor.
The Windsor Police Service says on Saturday just before midnight, an off-duty officer who was contracted to work at the casino was asked by security to assist with a "disorderly" man who was allegedly pulling fire alarms.
When the officer tried to escort the man out, police allege the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the hand. Still working to arrest the man, the officer had to use a taser to subdue the suspect.
Michael A. Knapp, a 50-year-old man from Windsor, is now charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, uttering threats, aggravated assault, two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon, and causing a false fire alarm.
The officer was treated in hospital and underwent surgery Sunday morning. He has since been released from hospital and is recovering at home.
