Growers Stepping Up For Healthy Food Strategy

The agricultural community is taking the lead in helping Chatham-Kent eat healthier.

Staff say the CK Agricultural Development Committee is taking the first steps to apply for government funding to help the municipality's healthy food strategy.

Public Health Dietician Lindsay Davidson says the plan does more than ask the public to eat their fruits and vegetables.

"Whether it's looking at local food, strengthening agriculture, looking at production and distribution," says Davidson. "Waste management, so what we're doing at the end. Also making sure people have access to it; getting it to them in their home, and on their plate."

Public health officials will be meeting with stakeholders on April 20, looking for support from other sectors of the community.
