Focusing On Rehab Needs

The Erie St. Clair LHIN is continuing work on implementing best practices in rehabilitation services and making them consistent through its coverage area.

The LHIN's Alec Anderson says there will be a focus on a couple of areas.

"The areas we would be focusing on are orthopedic right now, we would be focusing on stroke, and I think the real push for the next three years will be geriatric care," he says. "We'll need to ensure that population group is getting the right opportunity in patient flow in the health care system so we can get them back home in a timely way and meet their particular rehab needs."

Anderson says a working group on the issue has set up a number of procedures to ensure consistent care including in-hone and out-patient working groups to develop new models of care.

They are also working to identify gaps in the system that need addressing.
