Hwy. 3 Crash Victim's Identity Released

Essex County OPP has released the name of the deceased in Wednesday's fatal crash on Hwy. 3.

Diana Pepper, 67, of Leamington was a rear passenger in a Pontiac involved in the crash. She died of her injuries at the scene.

Police say the five-vehicle collision happened at around 2:30pm just east of County Rd. 23.

Investigators say the GMC pickup truck hauling a utility trailer heading west on Hwy. 3 rear-ended the Pontiac Pepper was in, which was travelling in the same direction.

The Pontiac then slammed into the back of a Chevrolet van. That's when the Pontiac veered into oncoming traffic, striking a transport truck and another car.

Three men in the van were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Two other females from the Pontiac were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries as well.

Another man from the GMC pickup was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
