Some local groups are driving efforts to support wildfire victims in Fort McMurray.
As wildfires rage on in the Alberta town, Victory Ford Lincoln is taking part in a nationwide drive event. Ursuline College Chatham will receive $20 for every test drive taken at the Pines Saturday.
Manager Don "Sparky" Leonard says the test drives will also help with wildfire relief.
"If each [test drive event] raises, say, around $5,000, Ford will match another $5,000 for the Fort McMurray campaign. It'll go through the Red Cross which will then be matched again by the government. It's a win-win-win," says Leonard.
Residents can take their free test drives at Ursuline College Chatham on Grand Ave. W from 10am to 4pm Saturday.
Meanwhile members of the group 519 Trucks are collecting money and clothing donations in Chatham and Windsor Saturday, which will all be sent to Fort McMurray via transport truck.
519 Trucks Administrator Dan Stirling says they've already gotten overwhelming support for the initiative.
"We didn't expect Windsor to fork out as much as they wanted to, and it turns out there's a lot more people who want to donate than expected," says Stirling. "We're looking to get a couple more trailers on the road."
Members will collect donations at Windsor's Devonshire Mall from 12:30pm until1:30pm, then at the former Chatham Target parking lot from 2:30pm until 3:30pm.
