After a cool start to the spring in southwestern Ontario, the weather will be warming up just in time for the long weekend.
Geoff Coulson with Environment Canada is calling for sunshine and warmer than normal temperatures from now until the middle of next week.
"Plenty of sunshine in the forecast, maybe a little cloud around on Saturday," says Coulson. "Sunday and Monday look like they'll have lots of sunshine with temperatures slowly getting warmer as we go through the weekend."
Coulson says a persistent air flow from northwest was bringing cooler temperatures into the southwest in April and the first half of May, but that is starting to shift.
"We are starting to see more of the winds coming up from the southwest -- that tends to be our warm weather direction," says Coulson. "That pattern does look like it will be more persistent for us going forward over the next few weeks."
Coulson is also reminding people who are going to be spending some time outside this weekend that the UV index will be high, so they should make an effort to protect themselves from the sun.
