Encouraging Manufacturing Path For Students

A local manufacturing company is letting students take a peek inside its doors to get them interested in their industry.

On Wednesday, Chatham-Kent and Dresden's Leemark Enterprises are holding private tours at their facility, as part of a "tech demo" day. CK Economic Development Officer Geoff Wright hopes local teens get an appreciation of a different line of work.

"We're trying to showcase small enterprises and manufacturing, shining a bright light on the industry," says Wright. "Really just try to showcase to students and the public that there is some advanced manufacturing going on in the region."

The mould and die company will also showcase some new advancements in technology with the students. It houses a CNC 5-Axis mill, which Wright says is the first of its kind in Canada.

The municipality is also holding a community open house at the site from 2pm-5pm Wednesday. An industry networking event also goes from 4pm-7pm.
