Kayakers Paddling Entire Thames River

A couple of kayakers are moving through Chatham-Kent on the Thames River as part of a campaign to highlight the waterway.

The kayakers are paddling the entire Thames River as part of the Traverse the Thames campaign which will see photos and videos produced.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority has sponsored the campaign to the tune of $1,000 and General Manager Don Pearson expects the excursion to build awareness of the life in the river you don't see from the road.

"Just to see it highlighted from the perspective because it really takes a die-hard, enthusiastic paddler to make that almost 300 km trek," says Pearson.

Pearson expects the videos will show life on the river most people will never have seen.

"From that perspective, that point of view at water level in a kayak you know, you'll be coming up across Great Blue Herons, turtles basking and bald eagles probably nesting," says Pearson.

The campaign is set to wrap on Monday.
