Canada Day festivities in Chatham are still a go, but on a much smaller scale.
While there will be no fireworks or parade, a number of activities have been planned for Tecumseh Park.
"When we found out there would be no parade or nothing going on, I asked my staff and they agreed, and they're actually quite excited about it," says Chatham-Kent-Leamington MP Dave Van Kesteren. "So let's try to put something together from our perspective, from our office, and so that's where it's come from."
The festivities start at 10am, free cake will be served around 11:45am following a number of presentations from local historians and local officials.
Van Kesteren says it will be a much smaller affair.
"Bear in mind that we put this together last week, that's when we found out there would be no festivities," says Van Kesteren. "It's rather short notice, but I think considering all that, great effort's been put in. We've had great participation from anybody that's heard about it, that want to help. I think it's going to be a good event."
Fireworks are being held in Wallaceburg, Tilbury, Bothwell, Blenheim, and Erieau on Canada Day.
