A 36-year-old man is in trouble with the law after allegedly convincing a woman to give him money for car repairs that he never completed.
Police say the man approached the woman at a residence in Chatham on July 15 and offered to complete some work on her car for a fee.
Officers say the woman agreed to give the man half of the money up front and then gave him some more money when he returned to her and said that wasn't enough to complete the repairs.
However, when the man came back for a third time to ask for more money, the woman turned him away and called police.
After speaking with the woman, investigators learned that she had paid the man $312 even though he never ended up doing any work on her car.
Officers were able to identify a suspect and arrested him yesterday. A 36-year-old Chatham man is now charged with three counts of fraud.
