Pride Of Corunna Soars To Gold

Corunna's Derek Drouin soared to new heights in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Tuesday, reaching the top of the podium in Olympic men's high jump.

Drouin was flawless in all his jumps, clearing 2.38 m (7.8 ft) on his first attempt at that height, to win the gold medal.

The pride of Corunna and a graduate of St. Patrick's High School, Drouin bettered his bronze medal performance in London, England four years ago.

After clinching the gold medal, Drouin made one attempt, unsuccessfully, at the Olympic record height of 2.4 m.

Drouin's parents and sisters were on hand in Rio to watch his gold medal performance.

Drouin is the first Canadian to win Olympic gold in high jump since Duncan McNaughton in 1932.
