Ripe For The Picking

It looks like tomato growers will experience a good harvest this season.

Vice-Chairman for the Ontario Processing Vegetable Growers Tom Keller says this year's harvest is looking good compared to previous seasons.

"It's looking pretty abundant and the quality of it looks good," says Keller.

He adds, that the reason behind that has to do with the weather experienced throughout the area.

Keller says although rain is good for irrigation the dry weather is what helps prevent disease from spreading to the crops.

"This year seemed to start off a lot better to begin with," says Keller. "The plants had a lot less stress during the growing season."

Keller says most processors will start picking the fruit this weekend and the harvest will last about six weeks.
