Trustees with the St. Clair Catholic District School Board will soon decide the future of their elementary schools in Chatham.
Most of Chatham's Catholic elementary schools are 50-70% filled. Director of Education Dan Parr is proposing the board take a closer, comprehensive look at the system.
"We have seven elementary schools, and to varying degrees they all have some challenges with under-enrollment and with dated facilities in need of some upgrade," says Parr.
He adds, if a review is approved, a committee will be formed with reps from all the schools involved. "There will be a required number of sessions where the committee will be invited to hear information and give their feedback, input and suggestions," says Parr. "That's all defined in the provincial regulations on how school boards must conduct their accommodation reviews."
Trustees will vote on that comprehensive study at their next meeting on September 27.
