CKPS Goes Live With Online Reporting

Chatham-Kent's Online Reporting System is now live, meaning residents can now report lesser crimes through their computer.

The system was first announced in November 2015, and was put up on the Chatham-Kent Police Service website this week. It's part of an effort from the Chatham-Kent Police Service to keep officers available for high-priority calls, and to allow residents to report crimes at their convenience.

Chatham-Kent Police Sergeant Jasn Chickowski says residents will only be able to report on smaller crimes.

"Although [lesser crimes] do impact the complainant a great deal, in most cases it doesn't necessitate an officer having to attend, just to collect information that's usually used for insurance purposes," says Chickowski.

Despite that, Chickowski adds the online reports will get as much attention as in-person investigations.

"Each and every call we receive, whether it be an officer attending your front door, or through the online system, are reviewed by officers and taken serious," says Chickowski. "If there is further investigation required our officers will undertake that."

The sytem will only allow victims to report on the following crimes:

-Theft Under $5,000 from Vehicle -Theft Under $5,000 from Property -Mischief/Damage to Property -Mischief/Damage to Vehicle -Lost or Stolen License Plate -Lost or stolen property

The online reporting system can be accessed through the CKPS website, you can also view it here.
