Suspicious Man Approaches Children

Police are on the hunt for a suspicious man who's been approaching young children in Chatham.

Police officials say three suspicious incidents, involving the same man, have happened in the last two days.

On Wednesday, the principal at George P. Vanier School saw the suspect wandering the school's halls, apparently looking for a washroom. The principal escorted the man off school property without incident, and didn't come into contact with any students.

On Thursday, police got reports of the same man approaching a young girl on Madera Cres. just after 6pm in a vehicle. When the suspect asked the girl for directions, she continued walking without interacting with him. A short time later, the man approached a young boy in the same vehicle on Daleview Ave. Again, the boy did not interact with the suspect.

The suspect is described as a white man between the ages of 20 and 30, standing between 5'10" and 6'0", with brown hair. He was last seen wearing jeans, a blue shirt with two-tone sleeves and a black/burgundy straight-brimmed hat. He was seen driving a silver/beige Ford SUV with a loud muffler and orange stickers on the back window.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Constable Fraser Leontowicz at fraserl@chatham-kent.ca or 519-436-6600 ext. 87148. Anonymous callers may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
