As council is set to begin formal budget deliberations tonight an East Chatham-Kent Councillor is concerned there hasn't been enough time for public debate.
David Van Damme says there should have been community engagement meetings over some of the proposed cuts.
"To impact service cuts or proposed cuts such as closing the Bothwell arena or the Brunner Centre in Thamesville, I think, cuts into the heart of any community," he says. "We'll work together to vet that out and make responsible decisions but ultimately it shouldn't come to that there should be much more community engagement."
Van Damme says municipal administrators have stressed the importance of community engagement in vision statements but says that has not been done with the proposed cuts.
