Christmas Comes To Chatham Tuesday

Garland, ornaments, and glittering lights; these are just some of the festive decorations that will deck the halls at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul next week.

The Catholic organization's annual Christmas sale starts on Tuesday, at its resale stores in Blenheim and Chatham.

Valerie Butterfield, President of the Society's Chatham-Kent branch, says they expect a lot of foot traffic.

"Lots of people wait every year to come to this sale. Things get picked up very quickly," she says. "Everything that we sell in our stores is donated by the public. We decide what is the best of what we receive, and the best of what we receive is what we sell."

Butterfield says the prices are affordable.

"The money that we get at the store serves to keep the store afloat, pay our bills," says Butterfield. "But the store helps to support the summer camp in Bothwell, which is called Camp Vincent."

The program gives children from low-income families the opportunity to attend summer camp.

The store at 80 King St. E., in Chatham is open from 9am to 5pm from Tuesdays to Fridays, and 9am to 4pm on Saturdays.
