Cancer Society Launches New Fundraiser

The Canadian Cancer Society has launched a brand new fundraiser in Chatham-Kent.

Pigs of Hope lets individuals or groups "adopt" a pig, and "feed" it with change and donations.

All of the money raised will go to the local Cancer Society's Wheels of Hope program.

"We have about 40 drivers in the Chatham-Kent area," says senior manager Cindy Vinall. "Monday to Friday, they provide transportation to and from people's cancer related appointments."

Last year the program gave over 35-hundred rides to 205 cancer patients within Chatham-Kent, but also to Windsor, London, Hamilton, and Toronto.

The average cost of one ride is $50, and in 2015, the program cost almost $93,000.

To adopt a pig, contact the Chatham-Kent branch of the Canadian Cancer Society at 519-352-3960, or email, dbaillargeon@ontario.cancer.ca.
