Home James Returns For Fifth Year

It's the first weekend for Chatham-Kent's holiday party-goers to take advantage of the Home James service.

Home James is back for its fifth year, helping to keep home over 5,000 customers from drinking and driving. On each Friday and Saturday until New Years Day, residents can call Home James volunteers, who will drive them and their car home after a night of holiday fun. They operate between 9pm and 3am each night.

Volunteer Chris Hogg says part of the group's success has come from their relationship with police.

"They have been instrumental in helping us promote the program," says Hogg. "We are looking for the same goal: we want to prevent impaired drivers on the roadway. We offer them another alternative to get home."

In exchange for their services, Home James accepts donations for local youth groups. To date, Hogg says they've raised over $46,000.

To use Home James, or to volunteer, call 519-351-3353.
