Members of a Chatham-Kent women's rights organization want the public to "get their heads out of the sand" when it comes to violence against women.
Wanda Bell was among them, and says they're seeing the problem being ignored.
"There is violence, not just domestic violence, we're talking about international violence. There's still female circumcision, there's human trafficking," says Bell.
Zonta Club members and their supporters gathered on Chatham's Third St. Bridge Friday, decked out in orange to attract attention to the issue.
Bell adds the issue goes beyond physical violence.
"It's emotional, and the whole power thing has to change," says Bell. "It's through awareness that changes can take place."
The Zonta Club is an international women's organization with a vote at the United Nations.
