Three people have been charged after a counterfeit money investigation ended with a single-vehicle rollover crash.
The Ontario Provincial Police say on Thursday around 7:40pm, officers responded to a complaint about the use of counterfeit cash at the OnRoute Service Centre on westbound Hwy. 401 in Dutton. Police say a grey Buick Allure was seen leaving the scene shortly after. The vehicle is believed to have been stolen.
Police located a Buick matching the description on Hwy. 401 in Chatham-Kent, but before officers could pull the vehicle over, it left the road, rolled over and came to rest on its roof. Four people were then seen running away from the vehicle.
With the help of an OPP Canine Unit, officers eventually found and arrested three men and a female.
As a result, an 18-year-old man and 20-year-old man from Etobicoke, as well as a 19-year-old man of no fixed address, have all been charged with possessing counterfeit money, possession of cocaine, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
The 18-year-old is also charged with three counts of failing to comply with a recognizance. As well, the 20-year-old faces two counts of failing to comply with a recognizance and possession of cannabis marijuana.
The female suspect, who has net been identified, has yet to be charged.
