Hydro Customers Won't Be Cut Off This Winter

Entegrus customers don't need to worry about having their power disconnected this winter due to unpaid bills.

The power provider's Senior Manager of Corporate Services, Tracy Manso, says Entegrus won't completely cut its customers off when the weather gets cold, but they will install load limiters if people aren't paying their bills.

"It ensures that they can run their heating and run certain loads," says Manso. "During the winter months when it's freezing temperatures we don't want to disconnect customers."

Manso says they are seeing an increasing number of customers who need financial assistance, but adds the power provider is working with local agencies like the Salvation Army to support provide programs to people who need help paying their hydro bills.

Those programs include the Arrears Management Program, the Ontario Electricity Support Program, and the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP).

While a recent report from the Ontario Energy Board showed that more than 2,300 Entegrus Powerlines customers were behind on their hydro bills at the end of last year, Manso says there are probaby only a handful of customers who are still cut off completely.

"There may be one or two out there, but for the most part, we work extensively with our customers to ensure that we get them back online again," says Manso.
