This year will have been the first full year the Liberal Government has been in power, something local MP Dave Van Kesteren has had to adjust to.
MP for Chatham-Kent-Leamington Dave Van Kesteren spoke with Blackburn News about the process he and his staff have had to go through.
"We were in government for ten years and now all of a sudden you're in opposition -- that was quite an adjustment, I must confess," says Van Kesteren. "But I'm adjusting to [the] opposition and I understand my role a little bit better."
Van Kesteren had taken on a new role this year as a member of the trade committee.
"That's been a rewarding experience as well," says Van Kesteren. "We've done some really good work."
To look back on 2016, Van Kesteren says he's pleased with what has been accomplished.
"As a party we've done an excellent job in holding the Liberal's accountable in some of the issues that have been raised these past few months," he says.
Looking ahead to the new year, Van Kesteren says they'll be working more with local businesses and preparing for Canada's 150th celebration.
