Souvenir Cookbook Cooks Up Interest In 2018 IPM

The International Plowing Match is getting a taste of Chatham-Kent.

Organizers say they've been able to take a bite out of funding the 2018 event, thanks to strong initial sales of the souvenir cookbook.

"At last count, we're roughly around 2,000 cookbooks sold already," says Leon Leclair, co-chair of the 2018 IPM Committee. "They're $15 a book. There's a cost for publishing and printing and everything else. I'm not sure of the break down, but our projections of what we're hoping to sell is between 12,000 and 15,000 books."

Book sales will help pay for the 2018 plowing match, and support various local charities.

From Dresden to Wallaceburg to Mitchell's Bay, Leclair says the book is a collection of over 1,000 family recipes native to Chatham-Kent.

"It's a mainstay for all the plowing matches. It's a really good seller," says Leclair. "Before Christmas, I would buy a book for myself, but there was such demand for it that I must have bought a book for myself 15 times before I got to keep one."

Copies will be available at the Chatham-Kent Farm Show on Wednesday and Thursday.
