Schools Reopen Friday After Power Outages

Classes will resume as normal on Friday at two Chatham-Kent schools affected by power outages.

Wind gusts up to 90 km/h on Wednesday knocked down power lines and left thousands in the dark, forcing the closure of St. Vincent Catholic School in Chatham and St. Michael Catholic School in Ridgetown.

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board says power has since been restored to both elementary schools, and repairs have been made to the roof at St. Vincent.

Classes were cancelled for two consecutive days at St. Vincent, after high winds damaged a large section of the roof, causing the rubberized membrane that seals the roof to become detached.

The board is thanking parents and staff for their patience.
