Setting Up Roots In Blenheim

Habitat for Humanity Chatham-Kent will break ground in Blenheim this spring to give a family of four a house.

The official project kick off was held Monday evening at the project site on Sherman St. in Blenheim

Executive Director Nancy McDowell says the plan is to start excavating next week.

"Right now we're waiting for the ground to dry up," she says. "As soon as were able to get on the property the excavation is going to begin."

Looking to move in once the house is ready is Lee Chrysler and Nichole Spall, with their two children -- 8-year-old Lucas and baby Kylie.

"Our house is going to be started [and] we're just one step closer to having our own home," says Chrysler. "It's unbelievable."

The couple will help in the building process along with a group of volunteers. Once they become official home-owners they'll pay an interest-free mortgage to the organization.

McDowell says they're looking to complete the project sometime between the end of August and beginning of September. However, the project timeline depends on the weather.
