Live Streaming Report Coming Back To Council

Chatham-Kent council will soon get a more in-depth look at the options available in live streaming their meetings.

Councillor Carmen McGregor brought forward a motion Monday night, asking for a report to come back with the logistics of live streaming council meetings.

The motion passed unanimously.

"I really look forward to a report coming back and seeing where we can move in a direction to get [the meetings] streaming," says McGregor.

In the report, McGregor says she would like to see how they would go about live streaming the meetings, through what websites, and whether or not fees will be associated with the service.

However, if there is a fee in providing the service, McGregor adds she doesn't expect that will come out of residents' pockets.

"I don't think we would ever look at [having] a user fee," she says. "There may be a fee to providing the service but I don't see where we would look at that, I think we have enough areas within our budget that we could look to make sure the money [if any] comes out of that area in order to provide that service."

The report is set to come back to council on June 5.
