Provincial Drama Showcase In Chatham

For the first time in 16 years, Chatham-Kent is playing host to some of the best high school drama productions in the province.

The Sears Drama Festival Showcase is taking over the Kiwanis Theatre for four nights, starting Wednesday night.

"This year's the 71st anniversary of the Sears Drama Festival," says Devin Pearson, teacher at John McGregor Secondary School. "We're proud to say Chatham-Kent is hosting this year, and showcasing the talents and outstanding productions from across the province."

Three 45-minute plays will be presented each night, followed by a public adjudication. Awards will be presented on the final night.

"We're all winners because everybody's that made it to this level, and everybody's that participated throughout the district and regional festivals, they've all really contributed a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, and long hours to produce the productions that you're going to see," says Pearson.

Unfortunately no local high schools were chosen to be in the showcase.

"UCC and Blenheim actually got to go to the regional in Hamilton," says Pearson. "Unfortunately they were competing against ten other schools, and they weren't selected to come back to Chatham. But they certainly will be out in force and helping as student ambassadors."
