Organizers Take Walk For Alzheimer's Outdoors

There’s a slight change afoot for this weekend’s Walk for Alzheimer's event in Chatham.

The fundraiser which is usually held inside the downtown shopping centre is moving to Tecumseh Park.

Event Coordinator Crystal Dama says the event will feature door prizes and entertainment. In addition, participants can bring along their dogs to take part in the walk as well.

“We think it’s going to be a great time and a lot of fun,” she says.

Dama says the Walk for Alzheimer's has been an annual event in Chatham-Kent for the past 20 years or so and has seen growing success in raising funds.

"We probably had about 50 participants that raised $14,000 [last year] so this year our goal is $16,000," she says. “Our funds stay within Chatham-Kent and it goes towards services and our programs.”

Some of the services to which Dama refers to include cognitive testing, in-home assessments, day programs in Chatham and Wallaceburg.

The Walk for Alzheimer's runs from 9:30am-12pm on Saturday.
