Get ready for construction-related traffic delays on Grand Ave. W in Chatham this summer.
Chatham-Kent's Public Utilities Commission has awarded over $3-million to a local construction company for road and watermain improvements there.
The road work includes the addition of a dedicated right-turning lane for drivers who are heading from Grand Ave. onto Lacroix St.
The PUC gave the green light to its portion of the project on Monday.
"The commission has approved an upgrade to Grand Ave. W, so from Lacroix west to Churchill, [and] watermain improvements... We get rid of aged watermains from 1915 and upgrade them to current water build and standards," explains PUC General Manager Tim Sunderland.
Chatham-Kent's PUC Sanitary Sewer and Watermain Lifecycle budgets will foot the bill for just over $1-million of the total cost of the project.
However, before construction begins in July, council will have to give the green light to the details.
"Council will have to approve the remainder of this report, which includes road upgrades and storm improvements," says Sunderland.
Construction is expected to be completed sometime in the fall.
