Charges After Serious Talbot Trail Crash

A 24-year-old Ridgetown woman who crashed a car into a tree south of Merlin last weekend is facing charges now.

Police say the woman was released from the hospital in London earlier this week and is currently recovering at home. She was airlifted to London with serious head injuries after the crash on Saturday.

Officers say their investigation showed the woman wasn't wearing her seatbelt, the tires on the vehicle were unsafe, and the car was going 30 km/h over the speed limit at the time of the crash.

Police say a man who was in the passenger seat wasn't wearing a seatbelt either, but he was treated for non-life threatening injuries at the hospital in Chatham and released the same day.

There was a child in the back seat of the car at the time, but he was also taken to the hospital and released the same day.

The woman who was driving the car is now charged with careless driving, having improper tires on the vehicle, and failing to wear a seatbelt.
