CK Police Light Torch for Special Olympics

Chatham-Kent Police Service lit a torch in honour of Special Olympics Ontario.

Ontario Law Enforcement celebrated the 30th anniversary of the annual Torch Run For Special Olympics on Saturday in Kingston Park.

Constable Jason Herder was impressed with how many people came out to support the event.

"It was a great turnout today. Probably 50 runners in total. We've more than doubled our turnout from last year," says Herder.

He says a special guest is what inspired him most about the day.

"We had an athlete come out today and share her story with all the runners. It kind of brings it back to reality for everyone of what this is all about," says Herder.

All proceeds from the torch run go towards Special Olympics Ontario fundraising. The summer games for the Special Olympics run from July 14 to 16 in Peel Region.
