A new partnership could be forming between the public and Catholic school boards in the region.
Lambton-Kent District School Board members approved Trustee Jack Fletcher's motion Tuesday night to approach the St. Clair Catholic School Board in the hopes that the two boards can work together to find solutions to keep more local schools open.
The motion also mentions the possibility of sharing school buildings that both school boards would be able to use for their students.
Fletcher points out that "most of the communities in Lambton County and the Municipality of Chatham-Kent have Catholic and Public Schools in nearby locations."
The latest projections from the public school board indicate elementary and secondary school enrollment will continue to decline over the next ten years.
There's no timeline for when the letter will be sent to the Catholic board.
