A 43-year-old woman has been charged with stunt driving after she was allegedly caught speeding on Hwy. 401 near Ridgetown.
Chatham-Kent OPP say a vehicle was clocked going 180 km/h Sunday afternoon, on Hwy. 401 near Scane Rd.
As a result, the Mississauga woman has been charged with performing a stunt in a motor vehicle, failing to surrender a valid insurance card, and failing to sign a permit in ink. In addition, her driver's licence was suspended and the vehicle was impounded.
The woman is set to appear in court on August 23.
Police are reminding drivers of the penalties associated with stunt driving.
The penalties for driving 50 km/hr or more over the speed limit include:
- Immediate seven-day licence suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment
- Upon conviction, $2,000 to $10,000 fine, six demerit points, up to six months jail, up to two years licence suspension for a first conviction
- Driver's licence suspension of up to ten years for a second conviction within ten years
