Dilkens Responds to Trump on NAFTA Talks

Windsor's mayor is responding to U.S. President Donald Trump's criticism on current NAFTA talks.

Drew Dilkens took to Twitter Sunday morning after Trump hinted at ending talks to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement. In a tweet, the president said both Canada and Mexico were being "very difficult" in the negotiations and hinted at terminating the agreement completely.

Trump's tweet also called NAFTA the "worst deal ever made".

Dilkens responded with a tweet of his own.

Trump had threatened to pull the United States out of NAFTA earlier this year and had promised to renegotiate or kill the agreement while running for president in 2016. Talks to renegotiate the agreement have been going on for several weeks.

NAFTA was put into effect in January 1994 after approval from the governments of Canada, the US and Mexico.
