Maroons Bite Vipers 4-3 in Overtime

Josh Supryka needed 45 seconds of overtime and the Chatham Maroons beat the LaSalle Vipers 4-3 Sunday at Chatham Memorial Arena.

The Maroons sit in sixth place in the GOJHL Western Conference with 13 points. The Vipers are up a place on the Maroons with 15 points.

There was no scoring in the first period, and the Maroons were able to kill off all three penalties during that frame. The Vipers' Max Sieberer received a ten-minute misconduct for head contact.

The two contestants exchanged goals in the second period, with LaSalle drawing first blood on a score from Aaron Shaw. Chatham responded with a goal from Bryce Yetman.

The Vipers scored two back-to-back goals in the third period. Manny Silverio scored at 13 seconds into the stanza, and Evan Ferguson tied the game over two minutes later. The Maroons got those goals back later in the period when Dane Johnstone scored on the power play and Yetman scored his second of the game.

Ryan Wagner stopped 23 out of 26 shots in goal to take the win for Chatham. Dershahn Stewart had 45 saves between the pipes for the Vipers.

The Vipers welcome the Komoka Kings to the Vollmer Complex on Wednesday night. The Maroons visit St. Marys on Friday night. Puck drop is at 7:30pm and all the action can be heard on CFCO Country 92.9/AM 630.
