The Fuzzy Muzzies Reunite To Raise Money For Movember

A group of local men are ditching their razors one last time to raise money and awareness for men's health, in memory of their friend who passed away.

Andrew Thibodeau helps organize a fundraising group in Tilbury called the 'Fuzzy Muzzies.' He says one of his friends came up with the idea after his dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

"Fuzzy Muzzies is a group of guys that all went to school together. We decided to get together and try to raise some money and awareness for Men's Health Month, which is in November. It's mainly Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. We're just trying to bring awareness so people know they're supposed to go get checked," explains Thibodeau.

He says the group ran for five successful years, raising around $55,000 in total. Though, as life became busier, Thibodeau says the group decided to call it quits two years ago.

Thibodeau says the Fuzzy Muzzies decided to join together again after one of the original organizers, Tyler Medeiros, died.

"This past spring, one of the original members was killed in a car accident. His mom challenged us this year to come back, because he loved it so much... and do one more year for him," he says.

Thibodeau says his friend Tyler was an important part of the group.

"It was just something that he really loved. He was one of the main proponents for it, so it was just something that his family wanted to keep his memory going with. He was always the laugh of the party whenever we got together, so we're just trying to do it in memory of him," he says.

Thibodeau says Chatham-Kent residents can support the Fuzzy Muzzies by going to the group's Facebook page or searching 'The Fuzzy Muzzies' on Movember Canada's website.
