Spitfires Beat Otters 4-3 in Overtime

Aaron Luchuk continued his scoring tear for the Windsor Spitfires.

The captain scored two goals, including the overtime winner, in the Spits' 4-3 win over the Otters Saturday night at Erie Insurance Arena. Luchuk's goal total on the season is at an OHL-leading 18.

The score was the same one that the Spitfires previously beat the Otters with, in the final game of the Memorial Cup played in May at the WFCU Centre. Luchuk was also the game-winning goal scorer in that game. This was the teams' first meeting since the Memorial Cup.

Ivan Lodnia opened the scoring for the Otters at just past the midway point of the first period with his 11th goal of the year. Luchuk tied the game up before the first intermission with his first goal. It was the fourth straight game in which he scored.

Logan Brown scored back-to-back goals in the second period to extend Windsor's lead. His first goal came at 2:03, his second five minutes later. Erie got one of those goals back when Carson Edwardson scored his fourth goal of the season to cut the Spitfires' lead to 3-2.

The Otters tied the game late in the third period when Josh Wainman scored his second of the year. Luchuk's overtime winner came at 2:02 in the overtime period.

Michael DiPietro had 29 saves in goal for Windsor in the victory. Troy Timpano was pulled from the Erie goal in the second period for Anand Oberoi. Together they had 31 saves.

The Spitfires head to Hamilton to play the Bulldogs Sunday afternoon.
