Legionnaires Drop Maroons 5-2

Jon Sanderson's hat trick helped the Sarnia Legionnaires ice the Chatham Maroons Sunday.

The Maroons dropped a 5-2 decision in a rare matinee at Chatham Memorial Arena.

Sarnia now has sole possession of fourth place in the GOJHL Western Conference with 40 points. The Maroons currently have 29 points and sit in sixth place.

Jarret Marks put the Legionnaires up first with a goal at 2:40 in the first period. Bryce Yetman tied the game before the intermission with a power play goal.

Sanderson scored his first two goals in the second period, with the first giving the Legionnaires a 2-1 lead, the second giving Sarnia the lead for good. These were sandwiched in the period by Josh Supryka's goal for the Maroons, which turned out to be their last goal of the game.

Sarnia scored two more in the third period. Sanderson completed his hat trick just after the halfway point of the period. Trevor Bogaert's goal provided some late insurance.

Will Barber stopped 41 shots in goal for the Legionnaries. For the Maroons, goalie John Massara had 35 saves.

Both teams are back at it Thursday night. Chatham hosts the Strathroy Rockets while Sarnia welcomes the St. Thomas Stars.
