A&W Leaving Downtown Chatham Centre

Another long-time staple of the Downtown Chatham Centre is closing its doors.

Sears left the mall last October and now A&W, which has been in the mall since 1982, is packing up in just over a month.

A&W's Vice President of Real Estate and Franchising Patti Parente says the company will be shifting its focus to serving its customers at its other location in Chatham on Grand Ave. W.

"Over the last handful of years, we have seen less guests in the mall," says Parente. "We think we have a better opportunity to provide them with the type of experience we would like them to have in our free-standing restaurant."

Parente says Chatham remains a very important market for A&W, adding that all of the employees who are currently working at the A&W location in the Downtown Chatham Centre have been offered jobs at other A&W locations.

The A&W location in the Chatham mall will be closing on May 9, 2018.
